Best Men's Moisturisers

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

When once it was frowned upon now it’s quite common for a debate on the Best moisturisers whilst the gang of lads watch the footie on the box.

And it’s a debate worth having as no man's grooming cupboard is complete without a protective moisturiser. Here we've rounded up the very best everyday hydrators designed just for the lads.

Adult acne, blackheads, razor burns, in-growing hairs and sun exposure can leave skin stressed. The right moisturiser can help protect, repair and replenish your skin from all these conditions. The first step in choosing the most suitable one is to determine your skin type.

There is as many skin types as there are sunny days however, we tested the best face creams to suit every man’s skincare needs. Normally you would use a mattifying moisturiser for oily skin, an anti-blemish solution for problematic skin, or perhaps you just need an excellent all rounder.

Bodybeauty.ie rounded up husbands, boyfriends and colleagues and we put each products facial claims to test. We do not receive a fee from any of the products we review, and our reviews are totally unbiased.

The products we found to be the best on test are more expensive than some of the most popular products, but they are worth it. If you want a nice scented cheap moisturiser there are plenty to choose from. But we wanted something that really works for the men in our lives.

Here's the best 3 of the bunch.

NOTE: As always and with all our reviews, read the Legal Disclaimer of each product. Regarding moisturisers this will generally entail the following; For external use only. Discontinue if persistent irritation occurs. Keep out of the reach of children. Do NOT use out of date products.

Brickell Men's Daily Essential Face Moisturiser for Men

From the off our testing team was impressed with Brickell’s daily moisturiser.

It was sold as being a light, fast-absorbing oil free facial moisturiser and we found it to be true to its pitch. On first inspection of the ingredients it is packed with natural ingredients which once used, easily demonstrated skin that looked hydrated and healthy.

Some of our testers who were generally in their late 30’s (sorry lads) had oily skin and it was interesting to note that this moisturiser soaked easily into the skin without leaving it shiny or causing any sensitivity.

Brickell claim that it works for all types of skin including normal, oily, sensitive, dry, or combo. So it seems it’s for everyone.

This moisturiser benefits and protects the skin from free radicals by including green tea and jojoba oil. What? I hear you say. Free radicals can damage the skin by trying to grab an extra electron from atoms in the skin. When atoms are taken away from molecules in the skin, it causes damage to our skin's DNA that can speed along skin aging. Jojoba oil creates a protective cushion on your skin to reduce water loss. Green tea provides robust anti-aging antioxidants to reverse signs of aging.

So green tea and jojoba oil good, free radicals bad!

What’s also interesting about this moisturiser is that 100% natural, 83% organic and we like that.

Used twice daily we found that this product lasts about 60 days.

Brickell Men's Daily Essential Face Moisturiser for Men has an extremely high star rating on Amazon with thousands of reviews and on test it is certainly a n excellent product.

Elemis Daily Moisture Boost

This lightweight, daily moisturiser is formulated to immediately nourish and hydrate skin after shaving and should be applied daily, morning and evening. Before application warm the palms of your hands to allow for the moisturiser to smooth more easily over your face and neck.

There are special ingredients added to nourish and hydrate your skin after shaving none more important than Polynesian Green Tamanu oil. The Health Benefits of this oil are many. It is a treatment long used in Polynesia and Southeast Asia for the improvement of hair and skin. The oil, which is sometimes also called Laurelwood, is sometimes used on the face or elsewhere on the body for conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and scarring. It’s anti-aging and fights free radicals.

Added to this are chestnut and bamboo milk which both promote elasticity and suppleness through essential moisturisation.

We had several testers using this moisturiser with varying skin types and all agreed that it instantly hydrated leaving the skin feeling nourished and refreshed. We applied the cream after shaving and found its cooling effect was particularly evident.

We did notice that the consistency felt somewhat thin however, the majority approved of the product in general and all enjoyed its subtle scent. It works best with the Elemis face wash.

This product is slightly more expensive that our first reviewed product and again is rated extremely high on amazon with plenty of reviews for you to read through.

Jack Black Double-Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20

Straight from the off we love the fact that this moisturiser is not only an advanced facial treatment but is a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Additionally, our tester confirmed that it helps soothe irritation after shaving and provides long lasting hydration. If used in the morning, which we suggest, the sunscreen should last you for the day. However, if you do need to top up this moisturiser is absorbed quickly and isn’t oily or tacky.

Our testers noticed from the start how lightweight the moisturiser is without being too thin. The fact that this product has an SPF-20 formula shielding skin from premature aging due to sun exposure proved to be a big selling point for our team.

We would like to highlight some ingredients in this moisturiser that we love.

Blue algae extract is a rich source of Vitamin E, which helps keep skin supple. Sea parsley contains a combination of naturally occurring Vitamins (A & C) and minerals which work together to improve the skin’s appearance. An infusion of vitamins A and E protects skin from free-radical damage, and phospholipids bind moisture in the skin and support the natural skin barrier. All reflected in the price of course.

One of our testers is a keen cyclist and reported that he felt the benefits of this moisturiser when out against the wind.

We admit that the price is high on this product. However, when you go through the ingredients, and the detailed Pro’s below it is a very good product. It is is rated extremely high on amazon (4.7 out of 5) and if you need more info on this product there are plenty of reviews there for you to read too.
